Reflections - A 3D Action Platformer Game Project

REFLECTIONS is a 3D Platformer Action Game where the player will enter and explore the Space and Time within the world of Reflections. (Eg. in mirrors, water, Tvs etc.)

The story is still in the process of being developed, but the main idea is that an evil being is creating havoc in the human world by stealing our souls in reflections. The main character has his families and friends' souls being stolen. Just as the main char's soul is being targeted, an angel appears and fought with the evil being, resulting in both parties being injured. The evil being fled and the angel gave her remaining powers to the main character, allowing him to enter and leave the world of reflections.

The main character is a tennis player in school. In the reflections world, he will be able to use his racket as a melee weapon for attacks (like swords), and with tennis balls, he can use it as a ranged weapon.

Reflection has 2 meanings; 1) an image being reflected, and 2) to think deeply and carefully about.

Not only do I want the main character to explore another dimension, I also want the game to reflect our lifestyles in Singapore, which relates to the 2nd meaning.

The look of the game will be cell/toon shaded as I want to create a 3D game, with virtues of 2D animation like dynamic and expressive animations, using references from Japanese Anime. I have this idea mainly because I find even Anime games still uses very traditional 3D animation.

Notes on attached image:

The top image shows part of the layout of a flat's floor plan we have in Singapore. A television in the hall and the mirror in the bathroom has reflective surfaces. In the real world, we can walk from the television to the bathroom's mirror. However, what happens to that area in the reflected world?

The bottom shows early concept arts of the main character with different forms; one in the real world, and the other in the world of reflection. The other 2 are early concept arts of enemies. Probably in convex mirrors, the enemies in the world of reflection are fat in the middle, whereas in those funny curvy mirrors, the enemy will look curvish.
